About Kirakuya
Though it resides in K-town, on the second floor of a nondescript building, this sake bar and restaurant is Japanese to the hilt. With the widest selection of sake in NYC, Kirakuya boasts more than 150 varieties of artisanal sake selected by sake sommelier, Akaboshi Keita. Owner and… gracious host, Satsuki (May) Cho, who was born in Korea and grew up in Japan, brings her appreciation of the sake culture to the sultry Kirakuya Sake Bar and Restaurant: an intimate space, divided by deep mahogany wood accents, features an elegant bar and high-backed wood banquettes provide an elegant yet casual ambiance. The food is authentic Japanese fare offering sushi, main and tapas or small plates like Kakuni (berkshire pork belly in sweet soy broth; Toro Toro omelette okonomiyaki style; beef misoyaki; shiokosho chicken; Nasu Dengaku (grilled Japanese eggplants served with miso).
